Endorsements for The One Year Yellow Ribbon Devotional The One Year Yellow Ribbon Devotional is a cup of cool water given in Jesus’ name to anyone who faces doubt in uncertain times, particularly our men and women in the military. – Dave Ramsey, New York Times best-selling author and nationally syndicated radio talk show host In over 35 years of active-duty service, I met few military spouses who matched Brenda Pace and Carol McGlothlin in their passions for God, family, nation, and fellow citizen. Join them as they pour their hearts onto these pages in daily worship – you will be blessed! – Peter U. Sutton, Major General, USAF (Retired) Excerpts from The One Year Yellow Ribbon Devotional March 18 The word has just been given. A three-month extension has been added to the deployment tour in Iraq. All of the sudden, the special month and time etched in the hearts and minds of waiting spouses and families is instantly changed. I found myself going to the calendar to find the date of departure of the five I personally know who are serving at this time. I received an e-mail shortly after the extension was made public from my dear friend, Major Steve. I want to share a bit of what he said to help express what is on the hearts of these amazing military members: You probably saw on the news before I did, that we were being extended another three months. And to think that I thought one year was a long time. It’s a marathon and not a sprint. I’m reminded of the extreme sacrifices previous generations made. They would go off to war for years at a time without knowing when and if they would return. My wife and I truly believe that God is our assignment manager. He uses the Army to send us places. We believe God has a mission for us at each location, and I guess I have three more months of work here in Iraq that he wants me to accomplish. It will be neat to look back and see what was done during these three extra months. Next time you have to go a different way on the road because of a detour or maybe even get out of a meeting or gathering a little late, think of Major Steve and how he took the news of his extension. It is my prayer that we can learn to look at this life God has given us through the eyes of a soldier who knows who is in charge and who is directing his path! Carol Dear Lord Jesus, bless those who are serving our country as soldiers, airmen, marines sailors and coastguardsmen. I thank you for those who know you as their Lord and Savior. I thank you that they are going forward with the power and strength of the Holy Spirit leading the way. Amen. |
